We'd like you to meet the 9th family who Disruptive Hope has helped realize their dream to adopt. Kaylan and Jon welcomed their daughter Hannah in June after experiencing a disrupted match last fall. We are so excited for them to share their story with you!

To Friends of Disruptive Hope -
From the very beginning of our relationship, adoption was part of our dream. It was one of the first conversations we had while dating—something we felt called to. For me (Kaylan), the desire to adopt took root in childhood and grew stronger as I worked with students in the classroom and supported families through their own adoption journeys. Jon, having grown up with adopted siblings, had already experienced the beauty and complexity of adoption firsthand.
Because of these experiences, we always envisioned building our family both biologically and through adoption. But four years ago, our plans took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Navigating that season—especially so early in our marriage—was incredibly difficult. Yet, our faith carried us through, one day at a time. While I’m incredibly grateful for the physical healing I experienced, the toll on my body changed our path forward. After many late night conversations and prayer, we decided adoption was the best option for our family from the start. Looking back now, we can see how the circumstances in our lives had been preparing our hearts for years.
In April 2024, we were matched with an expectant mom in Utah. We were overjoyed! Her due date was September 30, and during the five months leading up to the birth, we formed a beautiful connection with her. When we learned she would be delivering early via C-section, we dropped everything and flew out ready to pour love into both baby and mama.
However, on the morning of September 11, as we sat in the hospital waiting room, we were told she had changed her mind. Our hearts sank. While we were thankful that both she and the baby were healthy—and that she felt empowered to parent—we were devastated. We returned to Chicago with an empty car seat and heavy hearts. In this disrupted adoption, we lost over $20,000.
About a month later, we slowly and cautiously started to look at adoption cases again. It quickly became clear that the financial burden of starting over would be nearly impossible. That’s when our consultant introduced us to Disruptive Hope. Hearing their story and mission was a powerful reminder that we weren’t alone. When they offered to support us—not only emotionally, but financially—we were overcome with gratitude.
Just four months later, we were matched again. This past June, we met our precious daughter, Hannah Grace. Thanks to the incredible support from Disruptive Hope, we now get to witness the miracle of her life every single day. Just this past week, she smiled for the first time! We are forever grateful for the part Disruptive Hope has played in our story.
With Love - Kaylan & Jon
